Rail & Infrastructure Projects

Developing, renewing and maintaining the rail network is a major supply chain and logistics challenge. Do it well and you can maximise the use of possessions and beat targets for safety, reliability and efficiency

Working in partnership with OnTrack Supply Chain, we help to drive improvements in productivity, cost and delivery of rail infrastructure projects. Our work for clients in the rail sector has reduced the cost of materials by 10% and increased productivity on track by up to 300%.

Established track record

Our experience in delivering fit for purpose supply chain networks in the retail, manufacturing and automotive sectors mean we can deliver efficiency and reliability improvements in the rail industry.

We know that presenting materials, information, tools, and equipment in a customer focused, ‘right first time and every time’ way improves productivity of the team in orange. It also improves safety and reduces accidents. By combining our cross-industry logistics expertise with Ontrack’s knowledge of the rail sector, the lessons learnt in these sectors can be translated to increase performance against CP6 delivery plan targets.

End-to-end supply chain

We work in collaboration with work deliverers and look at a company’s end-to-end supply chain, from the manufacture of materials and plant through delivery and stores and into the hands of on-site teams.

Realising savings

Working together with OnTrack with their deep knowledge of the rail sector we can help reduce construction costs significantly. Savings are realised in:

  • Procurement of products,
  • Development of partnerships with SME’s,
  • Methods of delivery
  • Presentation of materials to site
  • Improved site productivity

Rapid response

Although our seven-step approach is very comprehensive, an initial assessment can be as short as two weeks, providing detailed insight into tangible savings and suggested improvements.

Developing, renewing and maintaining the rail network is a major supply chain and logistics challenge. Do it well and you can maximise the use of possessions and beat targets for safety, reliability and efficiency.

  • This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.

We’ve applied our experience of integrated supply chains to reduce delays on rail projects by over three quarters, by creating better communication links and a focus on ‘production’

About our service

Our seven-step approach:

Our relentless focus on delivering results can drive more than a 15% reduction in your overall project costs. Here’s how:

  • Design

The design of the end to end supply chain makes or breaks the capability of the engineering teams. We’ll design a supply chain aligned to your rail programme objectives to improve productive time on the tools and review the suitability of your internal supply chains.

Up to 10% reduction in cost from reverse logistics and productivity savings

  • Procurement

We’ll bring our experience in procurement to develop a multi-dimensional relationship with suppliers to get the most out of them and reduce the cost of procurement. We develop longer-term partnerships and drive value on programmes through long-term agreements.

    Up to 10% cost reduction

  • Suppliers and Manufacturers

A high-performance supplier management process leads to innovation and shared benefits. We have established relationships with world-class manufacturers and distributors with a focus on improvement in cost and deliverability of your programme.

Year on year incremental cost improvements and continued innovation to improve productivity

  • Distribution

We’ll work with you to develop an appropriate distribution network focused on the needs of its customers. We’ll bring cross-industry best practice to develop optimised distribution networks that ensure efficient use of space, time, and handling to deliver ‘right first time and every time’.

Up to a 3%-point reduction in logistics costs as a percentage of project costs

  • Stores and Inventory

We use our knowledge of world class warehouse operations, WMS and increasingly the use of automation to improve performance and cost. We combine data and observation-led strategies to assess stock levels, storage points and fulfilment methods and analyse on-track activities to inform stockholding strategy and plans.

99.98% on time, in full order fulfilment rates and 20-30% improvement in stock forecast accuracy

  • Final Mile

On the works, we’ll present items in ways that enable more efficiency, for example, kitted tote boxes that are checked and sealed for installers, drawings and relevant information presented with parts on handover. We’ll also increase the mobility of parts and tools.

Increase in on-track productivity of between 100% and 300%

  • Installation

We’ll use our proven methodology to significantly improve productive working time and output and reduce delays. We’ll design plans to maximise the use of possessions including start up/ramp down plans and pre-start enablers.

Reduction of delay during possessions from 43% to 12%
