Paddy MacBrant

I have been working at Hatmill since Autumn 2020. Before that I worked as a transport planner and coordinator for a number of different businesses including a national general haulage provider, a waste management company and a small international events and conference production company.

Engaging multiple stakeholders to achieve safer, greener and more cost effective transport operations

I have been working at Hatmill since Autumn 2020. Before that I worked as a transport planner and coordinator for a number of different businesses including a national general haulage provider, a waste management company and a small international events and conference production company. 

Apart from my work in network design and transport operations, I’m a passionate advocate of mental health and an instructor for mental health awareness and first aid for mental health in the workplace. I work to provide Ofqual regulated training and develop workplace action plans to improve staff retention, manage stress and increase general wellbeing 

My role within Hatmill has included :

  • Working with a national distributor of school supplies to assess the cost effectiveness, compliance and efficiency of their fleet operation 
  • Reviewing a major pet retailer’s network design to optimise the operation and provide a platform for growth 
  • Developing the network plan for the Covid vaccine steady state operation 
  • Working with a national retailer of trade supplies to recontract their store transport contract and optimise store delivery network 
  • Developing an action plan for a national take away foodretailer to improve driver retention and morale 
  • Providing first aid for mental health training for the staff at Hatmill 

In previous roles I have 

  • Generated significant cost savings by reorganising the rental fleet to take advantage of the full scope of the operator licence, retendering the subcontracted haulage services and investing in brand new vehicles. The changes combined increased the core fleet utilisation by 7% but reduced the overall logistics expenditure by 11% in the first year 
  • Implemented a new fleet management system and vehicle telematics to improve reliability and on time performance 
  • Worked within a team to plan and execute a fleet renewal strategy to comply with a new local Clean Air Zone 
  • Carried out the onsite implementation of a bespoke delivery planning software to integrate with the customer CRM and sales system 

The opportunity to work with different teams across various industries really appealed to me. It’s in my nature to create solutions and the chance to help clients explore options to realise the full potential of their operation was too good to pass up.

By improving their demand forecast, we helped one client save £3m in agency staffing costs (that’s an 18% reduction).
